Cox'sbazar Airport

Cox'sbazar International Airport

International Airport of Cox's Bazar (IATA: CXB, ICAO: VGCB) is a domestic airport in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Both local residents and tourists use the airport in Cox's Bazar. The first direct flight between Sylhet and Cox's Bazar was launched by Biman Bangladesh Airlines in November 2020. The Cox's Bazar Airport is being upgraded to an international airport in order to attract more tourists. As a result, it will become Bangladesh's fourth international airport. During the two phases of upgrades, the airport will be able to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft like the B777 and A330 with better parking, landing, and take-off facilities. It cost $6 billion (US$64 million) to upgrade the first phase. US$230 million will be spent on upgrading the second phase. As part of the first phase of the project in 2012, the runway was lengthened from 6,790 feet to 9,000 feet and widened from 150 feet to 200 feet. It was also necessary to strengthen the runway's load capability and upgrade its lighting in order to accommodate wide-body aircraft. Among the equipment installed were instrument landing systems, distance measuring equipment, AMeDAS and VORs. Standard Asiatic Oil Company Limited, an enterprise of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, provided aircraft refueling facilities from February 2017. During the second phase, the runway will be expanded from 9000 feet to 12000 feet. [9] To woo tourists to the beach town, the Bangladesh government reclaimed land from the sea to expand the runway at the Cox's Bazar airport, in an effort to mimic Hong Kong International Airport. In addition to being expensive, constructing a runway on the sea requires expertise only a few companies possess. After scrutinizing their technical and financial proposals for the tender, CAAB (Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh) selected CRCC Harbour-CCECC.
