Cox'sbazar Sadar

Cox's Bazar, located in Southeastern Bangladesh, is a fishing port, a tourism center, as well as a district headquarters. There is a distance of 150 km (93 mi) between it and Chittagong. It is also known as Panowa, which means "yellow flower" in Hindi. It was also called "Palongkee" in the past. With a total area of 23.4 km2 (9.0 sq mi), 27 mahallas, and 9 wards, the city had 265,500 residents as of 2011. There are road and air connections between Cox's Bazar and Chittagong. Capt. Hiram Cox, a Superintendent of Palongkee outpost of the British East India Company, gave the modern Cox's Bazar its name. His role in refugee rehabilitation led to the establishment of this market, which is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangladesh. There is the longest uninterrupted natural beach in the world in this city. From around the world, more than a million people visit here every year.
