Sylhet is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bangladesh. Sylhet is an anticipation of Shilho. The word appears to have been derived from Sanskrit. In this hilly region, these words are appropriate to describe the landscape and topography. There was an abundance of Sheila stones in Sylhet, and King Gour Govinda is reported to have used them to protect his capital. The elision of the letter-final changed the word to Shilhot. There’s also the theory that it’s named after Princess Sheela, the eldest daughter of Raja Guhak.
Tea has been grown around Sylhet for centuries. Tropical forests and tea gardens cover the Surma Valley. In Srimangal, you’ll see tea gardens all around; the hill slopes are covered in tea gardens.
More than 150 tea gardens are here, including three of the biggest tea plantations in the world. Almost 300,000 people work on tea estates, mostly women. Because women do a better job than men at plucking tea leaves, employers prefer to hire them.
The tea gardens are really popular with tourists. Tourism has also benefited Sylhet. You can visit a lot of natural landmarks in the area, like the Keane Bridge, Ali Amjad’s Clock, Lalakhal, Jaflong, Madhabkunda waterfall, Ratargul Swamp Forest, Hakaluki Haor, Lawachara National Park, Tanguar Haor, Bichnakandi. As a result of Shah Jalal’s resting place, Sylhet is also known as Bangladesh’s spiritual capital, because he brought Islam to Bangladesh with hundreds of followers. During the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the Sylhet Shahi Eidgah was built by Farhad Khan and is one of the largest Eidgahs in Bangladesh. The upazilas of Sreemangal and Bahubal have lots of hotels and resorts.
In South Asia, this region is beautiful and rich in archeology. Three national parks are there; Lawachara, Khadim Nagar and Satchari, plus numerous smaller ones, like Ratargul Swamp Forest and Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary. As a result of its booming economy, the region has fragrant orange and pineapple gardens and tea plantations. At higher elevations, there’s a humid subtropical climate (CWA) bordering a tropical monsoon climate (Köppen Am). It is hot and humid during the rainy season from April to October, with heavy showers and thunderstorms almost every day, while it is very warm and fairly clear during the short dry season from November to February.
